Honours system in Austria

Order of Merit of the Republic of Austria are State Merit, awarded in Austria. One distinguishes Awards of Federal Awards and the nine provinces.

Apart from that exists in Austria a variety of Merit, honor crosses and medals from various organizations, associations and clubs (especially the Red Cross, fire departments, the Black Cross and the Kameradschaftsbund ), but have not donated organs of the Republic and therefore not to be the national awards are to be counted.

Awards of the Federal States

The individual awards of the nine states were founded at different times by decisions of the diets or the state governments and differ very significantly in statutes and ceremony practice from each other. Four basic types exist in all provinces: a multi- national honor, an award for lifesavers and emergency staff, an award for long-term services in the field of firefighting and rescue services and an award for special achievements in the field of sport. Your ceremony is respectively controlled by state laws and are usually prepared by the Governor concerned.
