Hoodoo Gurus

Hoodoo Gurus are an Australian rock band formed in 1981 in Sydney.

Band History

The band founding member, songwriter and singer Dave Faulkner came up in 1981 together as Le Hoodoo Gurus. The cast was unusual in that Faulkner, Radalj and Rendall were all guitarists and the obligation of a bass player waived first. Together they recorded the first single Leilani, which was released in October 1982. At this time Rendall had already left the band, bassist Clyde Bramley replaced him. A little later Radalj left the band for him was Brad Shepherd added new. With this lineup the gurus recorded their debut album Stoneage romeos, which was released in 1984 and named in Australia for the debut album of the year. In the U.S., the album in the alternative or college charts was successful. For America tour, James Baker left the group for him took Mark Kingsmill the drums.

Early as 1985, then appeared with Mars needs guitars! the second album of the band, which became a chart success in a very short time. With the single What's my scene? by the successor of Blow your cool! recorded the gurus its largest-ever international hit, an extensive world tour followed. 1988 Clyde Bramley left the band, the Rick Grossman replaced. With this reshuffle today the active lineup was complete.

With this lineup the gurus published until 1996, four more albums, all of which had a lasting success. After 15 years, the band finally its dissolution in 1997 announced the end of the year they went on an extended farewell tour by Australian pubs. On 11 January 1998, the gurus gave their last concert in Melbourne. The following years were marked by various solo and band projects of individual members, 2001, the band came back together for a concert.

2004 finally signed a new record deal, the Gurus and published with Mach Watch her comeback album. In July 2007, they were included in the Australian ARIA Hall of Fame. After a change of record company in 2009 they released their new album Purity of Essence 2010.
