Hoogezand-Sappemeer

( Listen? / I ) Hoogezand- Sappemeer is a municipality in the province of Groningen in the Netherlands. In Hoogezand- Sappemeer 34 522 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013) to 73.05 km ², most of them in the twin village Hoogezand- Sappemeer, where the local government is located. Other villages in the municipality are Kropswolde and Kiel - Windeweer.

History

The territory belonged in the Middle Ages Gorecht and was under the jurisdiction of the city of Groningen. At that time there were only today's districts Westerbroek and Kropswolde as small parishes. The rest of the area was predominantly moorland. In the 17th century began with the moor colony and founded the villages Hoogezand and Sappemeer. 1949 joined both communities together. In the regional development plan Groningen- Assen 2030 numerous housing can be provided in the community. Hoogezand- Sappemeer to grow to 45,000 residents by 2030.

Traffic

The motorway section 7 ( European Route 22) (Amsterdam- Groningen- Germany ) performs the community. Also there is a railway line that links to Groningen, Nieuweschans and Leer ( railway empty Groningen). There are four stations on this route in the community, namely Kropswolde, Martenshoek, Hoogezand- Sappemeer and Sappemeer Oost. In Martenshoek and Hoogezand- Sappemeer holds every train, at the other stations only once per hour.

Policy

The council has 23 seats. The Socialist Party is the largest, but take in the parish council, in addition to the Social Democratic Labour Party and the Greens Groen Links, the Liberal VVD and the Christian Democratic CDA place. Mayor Yvonne van Mastrigt.
