Hooverphonic

Hooverphonic is a Belgian trip-hop band.

History

The band originally called themselves Hoover, but changed the name to avoid due to the existence of some other bands with the same name and to avoid confusion with the Hoover name.

She received a recording contract with Sony Music and released her debut album, A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular 1996 in Cast Liesje Sadonius (vocals), Frank Duchêne (keyboards ), Alex Callier (guitar, programming) and Raymond Geerts ( guitar). The song 2 Wicky was used in the soundtrack to the film Stealing Beauty by Bernardo Bertolucci. In 1997, she was on tour in Europe ( support act for Beth Orton ) and the U.S. ( opening for Fiona Apple).

The second album Blue Wonder Power Milk, after Sadonius had left the band, started in 1998 with Geikie Arnaert as a new singer. The song was used in the Renaissance affair commercial for the VW Beetle, the song Eden for the American film I Still Know what you did last summer. Following the release of this album, Frank Duchêne left the band.

The song Visions ( published on the bonus CD of their third album The Magnificent Tree ) was played at the opening ceremony of the Euro 2000 in Belgium. In 2001 she headlined at the music festival Rock Werchter.

2002 the band recorded the concept album Hooverphonic presents Jackie Cane, which describes the rise and fall of the fictitious singer Jackie Cane.

2003 saw the band in a theater hall ( Exception: 2 new studio tracks) a live album with an orchestra on, but, unusually, without an audience. The album was released under the name Sit down and listen to Hooverphonic: The Live Theater Recordings. As a single of the song The last thing I need is you were decoupled.

In August 2005, the first single Wake Up was released in November, the second single, You hurt me! from the new album in Belgium. Also in November, came the album in Belgium on the market in the rest of Europe, it was not released until January 2006. This time, the band released two versions of the album, More Sweet Music, with classical instruments and No More Sweet Music, which is the same songs contains electronic versions. Because the band with the promotion and especially the distribution problems of the album outside of Belgium was unhappy, the contract was not continued with Warner Music. Likewise, a continuation of the band has not been confirmed at another label.

The album The President Of The LSD Golf Club has been published in Belgium in the fall of 2007, the label tracks, in other countries it was released in March 2008.

Geikie Arnaert singer has stepped out of the band in late 2008, followed by the remaining two band members were looking for a new singer or a new singer through their website.

On 29 October 2010 Hooverphonic announced their new single The Night Before on their website. The video clip presents fourteen possible singers but only one of them, Noémie Wolfs, proved to be the true successor of Geikie Arnaert. On 4 November 2010 she was presented at De Laatste Show at the VRT ( Flemish public broadcaster ). The new album is released end of November 2010.
