Hoplosternum littorale
Hoplosternum is a genus of the family of armored catfish and calluses ( Callichthydiae ).
Features
The in South American waters widespread species of the genus Hoplosternum soft in appearance significantly from the usual image of the armored catfish Corydoras. You have an almost roller-like physique and a straight and only slightly notched tail fin. Of the members of the closely related genus Callichthys the Hoplosterna species differ by a fixed connection to the back - bone plates and the side plates between the dorsal fin and the adipose fin firmly connected.
The members of the genus Hoplosternum build unlike most representative of the armored catfish and calluses foam nests, in which the females lay the fertilized eggs.

From the genus Hoplosternum least three types are known:
- Genus Hoplosternum Gill, 1858 Hoplosternum littorale ( Hancock, 1828)
- Hoplosternum magdalenae Eigenmann in Ellis, 1913
- Hoplosternum punctatum Meek & Hildebrand, 1916
The Magdalen calluses catfish (formerly Hoplosternum pectorale ( Boulenger, 1895) ) is now considered Lepthoplosternum pectorale the genus Lepthoplosternum slammed and Hoplosternum thoracatum ( Valenciennes in Cuvier and Valenciennes, 1840) was recognized as a synonym for Megalechis thoracata.
