The hopper head, not to be confused with the nearby Hopper head in Willingen is a 832.3 m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Rothaargebirge on the border of Waldeck- Frankenberg in Hesse to Hochsauerlandkreis in North Rhine -Westphalia.

Geographical location

The hopper head is in the Rothaargebirge at the interface of the regions with the Upland Diemelsee Nature Park to the north and Sauerland with the Rothaargebirge Nature Park in the south. Its situated in the municipality of northern Hesse Willingen summit rises about 4 km south-southwest of Stryck ( Willingen ), 2.8 km north of Kuestelberg ( Medebach ) and 2.5 km (as the crow flies) east-northeast of Hildfeld ( Winterberg ); the two last-mentioned villages are located in Westphalia.

Neighboring mountains - with the height in meters ( m) above mean sea level ( MSL ): Clemens Berg ( 839.1 m) in the west-northwest, Hegekopf ( 842.9 m) and mill head (about 825 m) to the north, High Pön ( 792, 7 m) in the northeast, Krutenberg (785 m) in the east-northeast and Hillekopf ( 804.9 m) in the south.

On the north west edge of the wooded Hopper head springs the Itter, on its southwestern flank the small Swiss Mecke, a north-eastern tributary of the Hille creek, which rises at the southern neighboring mountain Hillekopf.

Along the running over the hopper head summit nordhessisch -Westphalian border, there are several historical landmarks from the years 1769, 1825 and 1866.

Mountain height

The Hopper head peak ( 832.3 m) is, according to German basemap approximately 30 m north of the border with North Rhine -Westphalia between two trigonometric points in Hessen: 832 m (50 m to the south) and 831 m (about 80 m northeast ) height.

Watersheds

  • The hopper head is located on the crest of the Rhine -Weser watershed: while the Itter in a northeasterly direction flowing turns first of Diemel and then the Weser flows the very short welding Mecke, which rises on the southwest edge of the hopper head, above the Hillebachstausee, the a little further south the Hillekopf entfließt, westward across the Ruhr and the Rhine.
  • The hopper head also forms the most south-westerly end of the Diemel-Eder/Fulda/Weser-Wasserscheide because the springing on the eastern flank of the mountain river, in northern direction over Itter and Diemel flow into the Weser, while the water of the brook of brackish water, which at the southern flank of the east adjacent Krutenbergs springs, about the coming of Hillekopf Bach groundwater and the Wild Aa ( " eagle "), whose source is located east-northeast near Auf'm Knoll, makes a detour through southern Orke, Eder and Fulda to the Weser.
