Horder (sculptor)

Horder, or Horderus, is the name of a Roman stone mason, who lived around 1180 in the Danish Djursland. The name is quite common in Scandinavia, since he was a tribal name, and probably goes back to those mentioned by Caesar Haruder. Horder five portals, as well as a number of baptismal fonts are attributed. The most important works are the portals of churches in Rimsø, Vejlby Oersted. Characteristic of his work are ornaments with Tauwindungen and acanthus leaves. The typical Horder baptismal font consists of fine-grained gray granite. The upper edge has Tauwindungen. The outside is divided into two fields, which are usually filled with acanthus tendrils. The foot is designed quadrangular and different. He probably had his workshop near the Kolindsund, so that his works could be transported by sea.
