Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 26-28 millimeters, and have dark brown forewings. The midfield is bounded on both sides by thick black transverse lines, however, do not extend to the front edge. The midfield is strongly narrowed toward the inner edge. The black scale bar at the apex is often associated with the outer boundary of the central field. The hind wings are brownish, not brightened at the wing leading edge and carry a significant black middle transverse line and more numerous indistinct transverse lines. Both wings have a barely broken hemline.

Dissemination

The dark brown clematis tensioner was found as Eastern style in 1937 near Dresden. The type emigrated from Bohemia by the Elbe Valley in Germany, and is currently regarded as Arealerweiterer in all new federal states.

In Europe the way from Denmark to northern and eastern Germany, Poland, Austria, Hungary, Romania, and of central Italy is spread through the Balkans and Asia Minor to the Caucasus and southern Russia.

Way of life

Among the food plants of the larvae include Genuine clematis (Clematis vitalba ), Italian Clematis (Clematis viticella ) and the Large Anemone (Anemone sylvestris).

Flight times and caterpillars

The dark brown clematis tensioner flies in two generations from mid-April to early July and from late July to late September. The caterpillars can from August to September ( first generation) and June-July (second generation) are observed.
