Horizontal bar

The stretching is one of the gymnastic equipment at Artistic Gymnastics.

It consists of a 240 cm long, horizontal rod which can be assembled in different ways and has a diameter of 2.9 cm. Today is the usual horizontal bar. Here, the stretching rod is mounted in two vertical bars, which are held with two or four clamping ropes. The draw is thus elastic, which is very helpful for modern exercises. For competitions, the height is 260 cm (landing mat top ↔ rod bottom edge ) or 280 cm (floor ↔ rod bottom edge ).

The stretching is one of the gymnastic equipment of men and comes in Olympic order, the sixth and so on last. It's olympics since 1896. Multiple no individual medals were awarded, because there was only one individual all-around. 1896 there was also a team competition on the high bar.

In recent years, the stretching gymnastics won by the inclusion of three or more flight elements per exercise (for example, double somersaults to catch it again ) even more artistry and appeal.

The draw was introduced by Friedrich Ludwig Jahn.

Exercises and handles

Typical exercises on the horizontal bar are Felgaufschwung, giant wheel or Kontergrätsche. More difficult exercises, which consist of flight parts are, for example, the Jaeger, the Tkatchev or Gienger.

On stretching, there are several types of grip: Ristgriff, comb handle, Zwiegriff, cross handle and Ellgriff.
