Hormizd VI

Hormizd V. (English Hormozd; † ca 632 ) was a late ancient Persian Great King, who reigned 630-632.

In the years after the death Chosraus II 628 prevailed in the Sassanid Empire chaotic states: No ruler could hold longer than a few months, two women - daughters Chosraus - ascended the throne for a short time and some rulers governed parallel to each other in different parts of the empire. Most of the kings ( and queens ) of this time is not much known except the name, as in the case Hormizds V, who was said to be a grandson Chosraus. The crown on his coins - the crown of each Sassanide was specially made for him - in any case has similarities to that of his grandfather on.

Hormizd was the few literary sources, who report on him, charged by troops in Nisibis to the king, while Azarmedukht still reigned. As Yazdegerd III. 632 was proclaimed king, and he was able to prevail slowly in the subsequent period, Hormizd was apparently overthrown. In Greek Chronicle of Theophanes he is even with Yazdegerd III. confused, which the anarchic states although an end put could, but at the same time was also the last Sassanian.
