Deepest lake in Sweden

The Hornavan is a lake in Lapland in northern Sweden, which is drained by the river älv Skellefte. It lies at an altitude of 425 m ö.h. and is 221 meters water depth of the deepest lake in Sweden.

In the lake there are about 400 islands with some of unique animal and plant life. In the south of Hornavan borders Lake Uddjaure, between the two lakes is the town of Arjeplog.

The water level of Hornavan is now regulated to generate electricity. Its size varies 220-283 square kilometers, it is the eighth largest lake in Sweden.
