Hornbæk

Hornbæk is a Danish seaside resort in the north of the island of Zealand in the vicinity of the Sound. It belongs to the municipality of Elsinore.

Hornbæk has 3581 permanent residents (2008 ), but is visited during the summer of about 35,000 travelers. There is a connection to Elsinore and Gilleleje.

Hornbæk is known for its elegant summer houses, its wide sandy beach and its former Bath Hotel Trouville.

History

Hornbæk developed during the 19th century from a simple fishing village. Around 1870 Hornbæk was visited by many artists, such as Kristian Zahrtmann, PS Krøyer, Viggo Johansen, Carl Locher or Holger Drachmann.
