Hornsundtind ( 1429 m) at Hornsund

Hornsund is a fjord on the west side of the southern tip of Spitsbergen, which extends about 25 km inland. Since 1957 located in the bay Isbjørnhamna on its north side, a Polish research station.

The entrance to the fjord is approximately 45 km north of the Sørkapp, the southern tip of Spitsbergen. The fjord separates the Sørkapp - land to the south of Wedel Jarlsberg - country to the north. He is from 2.3 to 11 km wide. The highest mountain is located at Hornsund Hornsundtind on the south coast of the fjord with 1429 meters of altitude.

It was named Hornsund by Jonas Poole in the early 17th century, after his men had found there a piece of reindeer horn.
