Hornussen

Hornussen is a Swiss team sport that is mainly operated in the Central Plateau cantons of Bern, Solothurn and Aargau.

The hornussen is counted along with the swing and the stone throwing to the Swiss national sports. Outside Switzerland, there are only two German companies in Muennerstadt and Großrinderfeld a regular game mode ( friendlies and German Cup group ). In addition, living in South Africa some Hornusser; this regularly participate in the inter-cantonal parties and the Federal Hornusserfest. The South Africans call it hornussen Swiss Golf.

The hornussen combines elements of individual competition ( possible further reduction of Nouss as a single service ) with elements of team sports ( interception of the beaten Nouss as team performance ).

The hornussen is closely related to other impact and fishing games such as cricket, baseball, growls and Spell or Mazza and the Scheibenschlagen in the Alemannic carnival.

The game

The game consists of hitting team in the Nouss as far as possible into the opponent's court into ( or even beyond) to drive. For the abtuende team is about to stop the approaching Nouss as early as possible, but no later than prior to impinging on the surface of the court with the shingle.

A game has no set length ( as is common in eg football). In the normal case (betting game / championship / small occasion ) played two whorls, each team hits per use once and once dismiss. Every single player is proposing two strokes with three trials per deal. Playing two whorls takes about three to four hours.

The winner is the team with less numbers, ie that at which less Hornusse went unstopped the playing field to the ground. Case of a tie the total of the impact points decides; are also the same impact points, decides the longest Ries ( Ries: 1 Total String, String Total 2 etc.). A draw game result comes as practically non-existent.

In addition to the team score a single bat rating is performed at the Swiss Championship and Festival events. A key factor in individual bats are rating the beaten points for hard occasions. The complex scoring in the championship ranking also takes into account points from the individual matches in order not to favor teams with competitive playing fields.

In Hornusserfesten three whorls are played - at the Federal Hornusserfesten four. Here, the first dealing means - at the federal parties, the first two whorls - Anhornussen (analogous to the " qualifying round " in other sports ). For the remaining whorls ( the Ausstich ) the opponents are divided the result of Anhornussens accordingly.

While Hornusserfesten played with three whorls of the competition will be completed on the same day, the Ausstich will be held at the Federal fixed the next day.

Physics

In tests at the ETH Zurich, the following values were measured:

  • Speed with discount: up to 306 km / h
  • Velocity at impact: up to 160 km / h
  • Altitude of the Nouss: up to 70 meters
  • Flying distance of Nouss: up to 330 meters

The flight distance of Nouss is highly dependent on wind conditions. Under favorable conditions top clubs can reach higher distances (up to 350 m).

Injuries

The 78 -gram Nouss meets with up to 160 km / h in the Ries. Despite the lack of requirement to wear protective gear ( helmets are required only for players born in 1984 or younger) injury by direct body hits are rare. This is also due to a change in playing philosophy, among other things: in the times without fixed set of rules (before 1900 ) body hits were often seen as higher numbers. Also, the game objective was rather to defeat the enemy by numbers as on the striking distance. Intentionally hitting the Nousses in a flat ( the horizon barely rising ) trajectory was in the second half of the 20th century by the introduction of income panel (see photograph ) prevented. Another rule change underscored the right to an additional blow for a fallen number.
