Hořovice Castle

Hořovice Castle ( German Schloss Horschowitz ) is located in Hořovice, Okres Beroun, Czech Republic.

The castle was built in two stages. In the first half of the 19th century it was the last Hessian Elector Friedrich Wilhelm I to rebuild and increase radically after plans by the architect Gottlob Kassel Engelhard. Its final form was given the castle until further building modifications beginning of the 20th century. The interior has predominantly late-classical character.

The castle served until the end of the Second World War the Prince of Hanau family as a residence. They are descendants of Friedrich Wilhelm I of his morganatic marriage with Gertrude Lehmann, later Princess of Hanau.
