Hórreo

A cereal box ( bavarian: Troadkastn ) was encountered in particular in rural areas of Old Bavaria and Austria, mostly built in block construction building for the storage of grain, but also other valuable goods of the respective farm. It was therefore particularly carefully constructed and erected to protect against fire off the farm.

A listed granary from the 12th century is located at Heiligenkreuz Abbey in Lower Austria. Because of the risk of fire, the building was built far away from the monastery area.

Subsequent use: Agricultural unneeded Troadkästen are today often revitalized, transformed into small apartments, and used as weekend residences or apartments.
