Horror vacui

Horror vacui (Latin: abhorrence of the void ) referred to in the art desire, all empty space to fill, especially in painting and relief with representations or ornaments. The term goes back to Aristotle (Physics, Chapter IV, 6-9. ), Who thus described the phenomena of nature. Rendered in the art, the term was used for the first time by the Italian art critic Mario Praz, who thus described mainly overloaded of Victorian art.
