Horst E. Brandt

Horst E. Brandt (born 17 January 1923 in Berlin, † 22 August 2009) was a German film and television director, who became known in the GDR through films on political issues.

Life

Brandt served an apprenticeship as a mechanic and was from 1947 camera assistant at the DEFA Studio for Feature Films. As a cameraman he worked on the 1954 feature film Ernst Thalmann - with leaders of his class and in 1961 on the television series conscience in turmoil. In 1966 he debuted with Irrlicht and fire as a director. Brandt, who was a member of the SED in 1947, 1966, 1969 and 1971 was awarded the National Prize of the GDR.
