Horst Schubert

Horst Schubert ( born June 11, 1919 in Chemnitz ) is a German mathematician.

Life and research

Schubert studied mathematics and physics at the universities of Frankfurt, Zurich and Heidelberg, where he received his doctorate at Herbert Seifert 1948. After that, he was assistant to 1956 in Heidelberg, where in 1952 he completed his habilitation. From 1959 he was an associate and in 1962 a full professor at the University of Kiel. From 1969 he was professor at the University of Dusseldorf.

In 1949 he proved the unique decomposability of nodes in prime knots.
