Hortensia (orator)

Hortensia ( * after the mid-90s BC) is the only woman in ancient Rome, of which is known by name, that it is publicly appeared as a speaker.

Hortensia was the daughter of the orator Quintus Hortensius and Consul Hortalus.

In 42 BC she gave a speech against a planned by the triumvirs special tax for women, reaching to the fact that the tax was lowered. A copy of this speech is narrated by Appian, but probably not historically.
