Horticulture

Horticulture is the superordinate term for research, cultivation, processing and marketing of crops that require intensive care. In contrast to the horticulture farming takes place on smaller often fenced plots. Etymologically, the term horticulture from the Latin word Hortus has arisen for " garden " and Cultura for " cultivation " ( horticulture ).

Horticulture includes vegetables, medicinal plants, nurseries, shrubs and ornamental plants and greening of public space ( landscaping) in particular cultivation and production of seeds and planting material and plant production in the berry fruit growing, vegetable growing, fruit growing, viticulture, floriculture and forestry plant breeding.

The specialist areas include plant breeding, plant propagation, crop production, plant nutrition, plant physiology, plant protection, harvest treatment, crop storage and preparation for marketing.
