HoÅŸap Castle

Hosap (of Kurdish Xoşab; ger Beautiful water) is a ruined castle in the Turkish province of Van. It is located near the village Güzelsu whose Turkish name also means beautiful water.

History

The castle was built in 1643 by the Kurdish prince Mahmudi Suleyman.

Currently the ruins are a popular destination. The castle was closed in 2008 due to disrepair, but was restored and reopened (as of October 2010)

Plant

Originally belonged to the castle, two mosques, pantries, multiple bathrooms, more than 300 rooms and a dungeon.

Trivia

In the novel " The Legend of Ararat " by Yaşar Kemal, the two main characters and Ahmet Gülbahar found on the castle Hosap refuge from the Pasha.
