Hospira

The Hospira, Inc. is a U.S. based company with headquarters in Lake Forest, Illinois. The company is listed on the stock index S & P 500. Hospira was created in 2004 by separating from the U.S. company Abbott Laboratories. The company manufactures and sells pharmaceutical products. As the only manufacturer in the U.S. Hospira produced the anesthetic sodium thiopental and sold it under the trade name Pentothal. Sodium thiopental is in the U.S. - mostly in a composed of three active ingredients Giftcocktail - used for executions by lethal injection. In some states such as Ohio, it is the only component in executions by lethal injection. The production and sales of Pentothal were discontinued in January 2011.
