Hospital de los Reyes Católicos

The Hospital de los Reyes Catolicos (German Hospital of the Catholic Monarchs ) in Santiago de Compostela, the capital of the Autonomous Community of Galicia in Spain, is one of the oldest hotels in the world. The building on the north side of the Obradoiro Square is a protected monument.

History

1489 and by the Catholic Monarchs, the Royal Hospital ( Hospital Real ) founded the place where pilgrims and should provide. The 1509 opened Hospital consists of two-storey buildings with inner courtyards. At the intersection of four farms from the 16th to the 18th century is the Gothic chapel. The rooms have been designed by an army of artists and craftspeople. It was the largest and best equipped hostel for pilgrims along the Camino de Santiago and had doctors, nurses and a pharmacy. The portal with plataresken decorations is decorated with coats of arms.

Since 1958 located in the building a Parador, a five -star hotel with restaurant.
