Basilica

The Hostýnské ( German Hostein ) is a 734 m high mountain in the pilgrimage Hostýnské mountains in the Czech Republic.

Geography

The Hostýnské located three miles southeast of downtown Bystřice pod Hostynem in Moravia. At the western foot lies the village of Austerlitz pod Hostynem, in the north Chvalčova Lhota and Chvalčov. To the east of the mountain Bystřička forms a deep valley.

History

To 200 BC is said to have been on the mountain Hostýnské a Celtic settlement.

After a recorded Bohuslav Balbin Sage hid on the mountain in 1241 the residents of the surrounding area from the attacking Mongols. They are said to have suffered from lack of water, so she prayed to the Mother of God. Your prayers to have been heard, and there was a spring; Moreover, a violent storm drove the Mongols to retreat.

The original chapel was probably built in the late 16th century. John of Rottalblick let them enlarge 1653. By Bystritzer pastor Provazník the chapel " Svatá voda " in 1700 at a summit at the springing source built (Holy water chapel ).

The Basilica " Svatý Hostýnské " (St. Hostein ) was built from 1721 to 1748 by the architect and sculptor Thomas Sturm ( Tomáš Šturm ) from Holle show. The construction was financed by Franz Anton von Rott Valley. After the September 24, 1769 burnt out the church roof and a tower by lightning, the damage could be fixed after two years by donations.

During the Josephine reforms took place on April 21, 1784 a ban on pilgrimages to the Hostein. Count of Monte della Rovere dell'Abbate who had as son Franz Anton is now inherited from the Rott Valley reign, ordered the demolition of the basilica. Were removed, the towers, the roof and the crossbar. The ruins of the Basilica stood as a ruin on the mountain.

At the beginning of the 19th century, the desire arose after a reconstruction of the Sanctuary. The resumption of pilgrimages to the fabled mountain corresponded entirely to the romanticized Czech national tastes after the appearance of Koniginhof handwriting. 1840 donated the owner of the domain, Olivier Laudon, 300 florins for the reconstruction of the basilica. Just in time for the 600th anniversary of the retreat of the Tartars from Hostein the church was restored in 1841.

1887, the establishment of the Jesuits was completed. 1895 founded priest Anton Cyril Stojan, who later became Bishop of Olomouc, the Company " Matice svatohostýnská " that earned the mountain by Baron Laudon. There arose a guest house and a larger hostel. At the same time the chapel was restored Svatá voda. 1897: the Angels Chapel, which collapsed due to the absence of repairs in 1933 and was canceled. 1898 was a lookout tower and the chapel built in " to the Holy Cross ." The Way of the Cross was designed by the architect Dusan Jurkovic 1904-1933.

Like all monastic institutions in Czechoslovakia at the monastery " Svatý Hostýnské " was occupied after the seizure of power by the Communists in the night of 13 to 14 April 1950 and the Jesuits were expelled.

In 1994, a wind turbine was erected on the mountain.
