Hot Club de France

The Hot Club de France is an association that was founded in 1932 by Hugues Panassie and emerged from the jazz club Universaire founded by students of the Sorbonne. The club describes itself as an association of lovers of authentic jazz.

In 1933, Charles Delaunay concert organizer of the club, the famous American jazz musicians such as Coleman Hawkins, Benny Carter, Bill Coleman and was brought to France for concerts.

1934, the Quintette du Hot Club de France was founded in Paris at the suggestion of Pierre Nourry and Delaunay by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli.

1946 came between Hughes Panassie and Delaunay fracture because Panassie would not recognize as true jazz the next time from the U.S. to Europe bebop. The breach also led to a split within the Hot Club.

The Hot Club organizes concerts, released a flyer as a monthly magazine and jazz recordings. The clubhouse is located at Montmartre in Rue Chaptal. There are regional clubs in the French provinces and Belgium.
