House of Chigi

The Chigi [' kidʒi ] are a Roman noble family, originally from Siena to arise. Since 1712 the Chigi hold the ( secular ) Office of the Marshal of the Holy Roman Church and Curator of the Conclave, in 1968 by Paul VI. was abolished and has since been performed only as further hereditary titles from the firstborn of the family.

As 1852, the Roman family Albani, in the Roman line of the Chigi had married in 1735, became extinct, the surname in Chigi - Albani has changed.

During the Palazzo Chigi (2nd half of the 16th century) was inhabited in Ariccia (south of Rome) to 1988 by the family and is now used as a museum and cultural center, is the 1659 acquired by the family better known palace of the same name in Rome ( Palazzo Chigi ) official residence of the Italian Prime Minister.
