House of Representatives of the Philippines

The House of Representatives ( Kapulungán ng mga ng Pilipinas Kinatawán or Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso ) is the lower house of Congress in the bicameral system in the Philippines.

Members are elected for three years. The House of Representatives is located in Quezon City, near the capital Manila.

History

The first elections to a precursor of the House of Representatives in the Philippines were held on June 30, 1907. This Parliament was called Philippine Assembly. The first House of Representatives of the Philippines was introduced as part of the creation of the Philippine legislature in 1916. The establishment of the Commonwealth of the Philippines in 1935, the parliamentary system was reduced to a single-chamber system. Only in 1940 was agreed again to the reintroduction of the bicameral system, the Commonwealth Conference. The first elections to the House of Representatives of the Congress took place in November 1941, but by the Japanese attack on December 8 joined this until no longer together. It was not until after the elections in August 1945 the House of Representatives held its first meeting back together.
