House of Rochechouart
Rochechouart is a collateral line of the house of Limoges, the already seceded by 980. The house Rochechouart is therefore - in addition to the royal family - the oldest existing family of France.
In the 13th century the family divided again: the older line is that of the viscounts of Rochechouart, the younger line of the Dukes of the Morte Mart.
The best known family members are:
- Louis Victor de Rochechouart de Morte Mart (1636-1688), Marshal of France
- Françoise- Athénaïs de Rochechouart de Morte Mart, marquise de Montespan (1640-1707), the mistress of Louis XIV
- Marie- Madeleine de Rochechouart (1645-1704), Abbess of Fontevraud
- Casimir Louis de Rochechouart de Morte Victurnien Mart (1787-1875), 1830 Prime Minister
- Louis -Victor- Léon de Rochechouart (1788-1858), Governor of Paris
