Houston County (Tennessee)

Houston County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Erin.

Geography

The County is located in northwest Tennessee, is located in the north about 50 miles from Kentucky and has an area of 536 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Stewart County, Montgomery County, Dickson County, Humphreys County and Benton County.

History

Houston County was formed on January 23, 1871 from parts of Dickson County, Humphreys County and Stewart County. It was named after Sam Houston, President of the Republic of Texas and later U.S. Senator and Governor of Texas after his admission into the Union.
