The Houston Texans are an American football team in the National Football League ( NFL) in Houston, Texas. The Texans play in the Southern Division of the American Football Conference ( AFC).

History

By the year 1996, the Houston Oilers played in Texas. However, this moved into a cloak-and -dagger operation to Tennessee. In 1997, the NFL decided to increase the number of teams in the league. Here, a special focus was on Los Angeles as the second largest city in the United States had no NFL team. Nevertheless, Houston also applied for the selection process. As expected, voted the team owner of the NFL in Los Angeles, but put a time limit of six months in order to clarify open questions (eg was not a stadium in Los Angeles available). However, this time went unused, and consequently the team owners decided unanimously on 6 October 1999, the rights for the thirty-second NFL team for around 700 million U.S. dollars to the billionaire Robert C. McNair to Houston to sell.

In 2000, therefore, a new name for the Texas team was sought to be established. The selection was initially limited to five ( Apollos, Bobcats, Stallions, Texans and Wildcats ). They finally agreed on Texans to illustrate the special bond with Texas. 2002, ie three years after the team award, organized the Houston Texans their first NFL game in the newly built Reliant Stadium, and for the first time since 1961, won a newly created NFL team his first game ( 19:10 against the Dallas Cowboys ). They finished the season yet with only four wins and 12 losses ( 0250 ).

In the 2009 season, the Houston Texans were the first to win more games than they lost ( 9:7; 0563 ).

Two years later, they qualified for the first time in club history by winning the AFC South ( 10:6 wins; 0625 ) for the play- offs.

In 2012, the Texans were able to re- win the AFC South ( 12:4, 0750 ) qualify for the play-offs.

In the 2013 season, the Texans were much less successful than in the two seasons before it, and in December 2013, head coach Gary Kubiak was released after seven years because of a start to the season with only 2:11 wins and provisionally by defensive coordinator Wade Phillips replaced .. With Phillips as interim coach ended the season with the Texans 2:14 ( 0125 ), the last 14 games were lost in a row, the longest loss streak in the club's history. This was the 2013 season, along with the 2005 season ( also 2:14 ), the worst season in club history. Next Head Coach Bill O'Brien was the beginning of January 2014.

At the end of the 2013 season stood for the Texans from all 192 games in 12 seasons so far of the 79 regular season wins 113 defeats against ( .411 ). From the current four play-off games, the ratio was 2:2 ( .500 ).

Play-off history

In the 2011 season, the Houston Texans reached for the first time in their history the play-offs. Her first play-off game, they contested on 7 January 2012 at Reliant Stadium home against the Cincinnati Bengals. Through a 31:10 victory they reached the Divisional play-offs. However, in this round, it failed in Baltimore at the Baltimore Ravens at 13:20.

With a 12:4 balance they reached the following season the play-offs, where they again met in the wild-card round to the Cincinnati Bengals and won the game 19:13. It managed running back Arian Foster was the first NFL player, at least 100 yards to run in his first three playoff games. The following play-off game, the Texans failed due to the New England Patriots with 28:41 left and thus, as in the previous year, in the Divisional play- offs.
