The new station was opened on 23 May 1982, is on a viaduct. Houten had, between January 2001 and December 2008, the shortest in Europe tram (Tram Line Houten - Houten Castellum ). The 1.9 km long route ran parallel to railway line and connected with the southern district of Houten Houten -Zuid. Since it was not possible to build a stop for trains on the existing railway line, a special track for the tram was applied in parallel. As Vehicles TW 6000 were used two hand acquired by the Hanover Stadtbahn. The line was only temporary planned and should be an anticipation of the planned track doubling anyway.
