Howard County (Nebraska)
Howard County is a county located in the state of Nebraska in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat), Saint Paul, which was by JN and NJ Paul, two early settlers named.
Geography
The County is located east of the geographic center of Nebraska and has an area of 1491 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Merrick County, Hall County, Buffalo County, Sherman County and Greeley County.
History
Howard County was formed in 1871. It was named after Union General Oliver Otis Howard.

According to the census of 2000, there were 6,567 people in Howard County. Of these, 42 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 2,546 households and 1,797 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 98.69 percent White, 0.30 percent African American, 0.24 percent Native American, 0.09 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.32 percent from other races groups; 0.32 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.01 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,546 households out of which 33.8 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.0 percent were married couples living together, 6.2 percent were single mothers, 29.4 percent were non-families, 26.0 percent of all households and 15.0 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.09.
Based on the county the population was spread out 28.3 percent of residents under the age of 18, 6.6 percent between 18 and 24 years, 25.3 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.6 percent between 45 and 64 years and 17.1 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 101.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.3 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 33,305, and the median income for a family was $ 40,259. Males have a median income of $ 27,270, women $ 19,587. The per capita income was $ 15,535. 8.5 percent of families and 11.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. This included 14.3 percent of children and adolescents under the age of 18 and 15.0 percent of subjects aged 65 and over.
