Howard Da Silva

Howard Da Silva ( born May 4, 1909 in Cleveland, Ohio, † February 16, 1986 in Ossining, New York; actually Howard Silverblatt ) was an American actor.

Life

Howard Silverblatt was the child of Russian -born Jews who spoke only Yiddish. Before he became an actor, he worked in steel mills in Cleveland. When he got roles like he was called in to Howard Da Silva. First we went to Broadway, where he made ​​himself a good name. He has played in Marc Blitzstein's musical The Cradle Will Rock (1937 ) and Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! (1943 ), in which he gave more than 2,000 performances.

His film debut was in 1935 with a not mentioned uncredited supporting role. It was not until 1940 he was also mentioned in the cast information. Until the beginning of the 50s he worked with renowned directors such as Cecil B. DeMille and Nicholas Ray and increased his reputation in Hollywood steadily, his stage work, he did not give up. 1947 has been the House Committee on Un - American Activities ( HUAC ) attention to Da Silva after him his fellow actor Robert Taylor had denounced as possible Communists.
