Howard Grant (boxer)

Howard Grant ( born June 22, 1966 in Saint Ann 's Bay, Jamaica ) is a retired Canadian boxer of Jamaican origin and current boxing trainer. He is the older brother of boxing world champion Otis Grant.

Career

The 1.80 m wide Links boom boxed as an amateur only in the light welterweight, won the bronze medal at the 1983 World Junior Championships in Santo Domingo in 1986 and the silver medal at the World Championships in Reno. Afterwards he attended the Commonwealth Games in 1986 in part in Edinburgh and won the gold medal. He was also 1986 and 1988 Canadian champion.

In 1988, he attended the Summer Olympics in Seoul, however, different in the second round against the eventual silver medalist Lars MYRBERG from that finished 9th place

After the Olympics, he became a professional and played 19 fights in Canada, the USA and England. He remained undefeated in his first 16 fights and won in May 1992, the Canadian championship at lightweight against Greg Gayle. In May 1994, he boxed in Stevenage at the Commonwealth championship at lightweight, but lost prematurely against Billy Schwer. After another defeat in May 1995 against Stevie Johnston, he finished his career with a record of 16 wins (9 Ko), 2 losses ( 2 Ko) and one draw.

Together with his brother he is the owner of the fitness center " Grant Brothers Boxing" in Québec. He not only coached his brother until his career end in 2006, but also Phil Lo Greco and four-time world title challenger Librado Andrade.
