Howard Raiffa

Howard Raiffa (* 1924) is an American mathematical statistician who is known for work in decision theory and game theory.

Raiffa studied mathematics at the University of Michigan (Bachelor in 1947, Master 1948), where he received his doctorate in 1952 at Arthur Herbert Copeland ( 1898-1970 ) ( Arbitration Schemes for Generalized Two - Person Games), and assistant professor of mathematical statistics at the Columbia University. In 1960 he became a professor ( Frank Plumpton Ramsey Professor from 1964 ) at Harvard University. Most recently, he was Professor of Managerial Economics at Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School ( John F. Kennedy School of Government ), whose founder he was. In 1994, he went into retirement. He was the first director of the company founded the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Laxenburg 1972.

Raiffa examined conflict resolution strategies and negotiations. In decision theory, he developed a value based on the Bayesian statistics access.

He is a multiple honorary doctorates ( Carnegie Mellon University, Northwestern University, University of Michigan, Ben- Gurion University ) and received the Dickson Prize in Science. He was chairman of the National Research Council Committee on Risk Analysis and Decision Theory.
