Howard Wallace Pollock

Howard Wallace Pollock ( born April 11, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois, † January 9, 2011 in Coronado, California ) was an American politician. Between 1967 and 1971 he represented the state of Alaska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years

From 1935 to 1939 attended Howard Pollock the Perkinston High School in Perkinston (Mississippi) and thereafter until 1941, the Junior College in the same city. During the Second World War, he served from 1941 to 1946 in the U.S. Navy. After the war, Pollock first studied in Santa Clara and then to 1955 at the University of Houston Law. After qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. In 1960 he was still studying Economics Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge.

Business and political rise

Pollock got into the business quickly. He became president of the Alaska Gold and Other Products Inc. and the Alaska Falcon Oil Company. He was also CEO of Alaskan Seafood Inc. Political Pollock was a member of the Republican Party. From 1953 to 1955 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the Alaska Territory. Between 1961 and 1963, and from 1965 to 1966 he was a member of the Senate from Alaska. From 1960 to 1966 he was also on the board of his party in Alaska.

Congressman

In the congressional elections of 1966, Pollock was elected with 51.6 % of the vote against incumbent Ralph Julian Rivers as an MP in the U.S. House of Representatives. In 1968 he was confirmed with 54.2 % of the vote against his eventual successor Nick Begich ( 45.8 %). So that he could represent the state of Alaska between January 1967 and January 3, 1971 3 in Congress. In 1970 he abandoned a bid again. Instead, he applied unsuccessfully for the post of governor of Alaska.

In the years 1971-1983 Howard Pollock worked for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. He was also a delegate to the Law of the Sea United Nations. Since 1998 he has lived in Arlington ( Virginia).
