Howell–Jolly body

Howell - Jolly bodies (English Howell -Jolly bodies ) are pathological nucleus fragments in the normally non-nucleated red blood cells, which can occur with asplenia or hemolytic and megaloblastic anemias. This nuclear remnants composed of DNA residues, and usually when it passes through the Endothelspalten in the spleen removed from the erythrocytes. After a splenectomy or asplenia at Howell - Jolly bodies should be found in the blood smear. If this is not the case, then this indicates the presence of an accessory spleen.
