Hoyt Axton

Hoyt Axton Wayne ( born March 25, 1938 in Comanche, Oklahoma, † October 26, 1999 in Helena, Montana ) was an American country singer, songwriter and actor.

Life

Hoyt Axton was the son of the well-known songwriter Mae Axton, who was involved as a co-author of the Elvis Presley hit Heartbreak Hotel. Hoyt received a comprehensive musical education. After his military service, he began in the late 1950s as a folk singer on the American West Coast.

In 1962, he co-wrote with Ken Ramsey Greenback Dollar, which the Kingston Trio scored a hit. This success brought him no money, but a recording contract with the Horizon label a. Were quickly followed the album The Balladeer and Thunder ' n Lightnin' published. 1968 his song The Pusher of the rock band Steppenwolf was made the hit and used in the film Easy Rider.
