The Hraundrangi (also Hraundrangar ) is a 1,075 m high mountain in the north of Iceland south-west of Akureyri.

Geography

The Hraundrangi is located in the vicinity of the court Hraun between the Hörgárdalur and the Öxnadalur, north of the lake Hraunsvatn. In the vicinity is the summit Drangafjall.

History

The mountain plays an important role in the poem Ferðalok (English Journey's End ) of Jónas Hallgrímsson who is born in the yard Hraun and raised in the area of Hraundrangi.

The first ascent of Hraundrangi succeeded on August 5, 1956 mountaineers Finnur Eyjólfsson, Sigurdur scale and Nicholas Clinch.

Say

The Hraundrangi has been associated with Grettir the Strong in communication, and in Öxnadalur also therefore called Grettisnúpa. According to the saga of Grettir the summit climb and to prove it, have left there knife and belt.

According to another legend says that a pot of gold should have been deposited at the summit.
