Hrebinka

Hrebinka (Ukrainian Гребінка; Russian Гребёнка / Grebjonka ) is a city in central Ukraine Poltava Oblast on the banks of the river Hlyna Orschyzja. It is named after the born near romantic writer Yevhen Hrebinka and administrative seat of the homonymous Rajons.

History

The city Hrebinka has its origin mainly due to the fact that an important center of Ukrainian railway junction was at this point the end of the 19th century. But before that already had passed the village of Tin (Ukrainian Тінь ) that the evolving around the station settlement was also initially the name. Only in 1901 was the place its present name. During the Russian Civil War Hrebinka was hard fought between the army of the Ukrainian Republic and the Red Army. By 1939, the city had grown to 4,300 inhabitants.

After the Second World War, the population rose sharply, so that in 1959, when Hrebinka received city status on 21 October, 10,650 residents already living in the place. Until the 1970s, the population continued to grow and in 1979 13,664 inhabitants lived in Hrebinka. In the 1980s, the city, however, had already recorded a slight decline. This trend has intensified since 1990.

Traffic

Hrebinka lies at the intersection of the railway line Kiev - Poltava -Kharkiv line with the Odessa Cherkassy - Pryluky - Chernihiv - Belarus. Across the street T -1709 is a connection to the European road E-40, which extends 15 km north west of the city.
