Hričovské Podhradie

Hričovské Podhradie (Hungarian Ricsóváralja - to 1907 Hricsóváralja ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia with 374 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011) in Okres Žilina, a circle of Žilinský.

Geography

The municipality is located on the edge of the mountains Súľovské Hills to its transition into the valley landscape Považské podolie. Through the town of Bach Závadský creek, a left tributary of the Vah flows. The center is located at an altitude of 325 m nm and is six kilometers from Bytča and 14 km from Zilina away.

History

The early history of the town is connected with the castle Hričov; a place was mentioned in 1265 as Hrichou writing, but the present village first appears in 1469 as Waralya and belonged to the small demesne of the eponymous castle. After the devastation of the castle in the 16th century, the village came to the estate of Bytča, which ran a Meier here. In 1770 there were two water mills in 1828 were counted 29 houses and 256 inhabitants, who were mostly employed in agriculture and forestry. In the 19th century there was a limestone quarry.

Until 1918, belonged to the county located in the Trenčín place the Kingdom of Hungary and was then Czechoslovakia or Slovakia today.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Hričovské Podhradie 372 inhabitants, of whom 366 Slovaks and one Moravians and Czech. Four residents did not know. 348 inhabitants belonged to the Roman Catholic Church and one population to the Evangelical Church AB, United Methodist Church and the Greek Catholic Church. Six residents were non-denominational and 15 inhabitants, the denomination is not determined.
