Hrishikesh Mukherjee

Hrishikesh Mukherjee (actually: Hrishikesh Mukhopadhyay, Bengali: হৃষিকেশ মুখোপাধ্যায়, Hṛṣikeś Mukhopadhyay; born September 30, 1922 in Kolkata, West Bengal, † August 27, 2006 in Mumbai, Maharashtra ) was an Indian film director, editor, screenwriter and producer.

He started in the film company New Theatres in Kolkata and went in 1951 Bimal Roy to Mumbai and worked with him until he became a director. His debut movie was Musafir (1957). With the stars Raj Kapoor and Nutan and the movie Anari (1959 ) presented a commercial success. Anuradha (1960 ) the National Award and Anand (1970 ) with Rajesh Khanna in the lead role won him one of his best works.

In the 1970s emerged with Abhimaan (1973 with Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri ) Chupke Chupke and (1975 with Dharmendra, Sharmila Tagore and the Bachchans ) his most popular films with the audience.

Hrishikesh Mukherjee was awarded in 2000 for his contribution to the Indian film with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. In 2001 he received the Padma Vibhushan.
