Hrnčiarovce nad Parnou

Hrnčiarovce nad Parnou ( until 1946 slovak " Hrnčiarovce "; German village of Neustadt or Hrentscherowitz, Hungarian Gerencsér ) is a city and a municipality in the Trnavský kraj Okres Trnava in western Slovakia. The number of inhabitants amounted at 31 December 2009 to 2,141 persons.

Geography

The municipality is located in Danube hilly five kilometers southwest of the city of Trnava and a creek Parna, which flows on the northeastern outskirts of the village.

History

The place for the first time in 1270 ( other details are talking about 1267 ) and was mentioned in writing as a humble community of the free royal city of Trnava. This relationship was valid until the end of serfdom in the 19th century. The name refers to the pottery, which was the profession of the original population.

On December 26, 1704, the battle was the place to Trnava between the insurgents of Francis II Rákóczi and Imperialists of Sigbert Heister, of which the latter ran out victorious.

Until 1918, the place was in the county Pressburg in the Kingdom of Hungary and came afterwards to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. From 28 November 1971 to 1 February 1994, the municipality was part of the city of Trnava.
