Hrodgaud of Friuli

Hrodgaud (also Hruodgaud, Rodgaud; † 776 ) was 774-776, the last Lombard dux ( duke ) of Friuli.

Hrodgaud was 774 by Charlemagne, the Desiderius, the last king of the Langobardenreiches defeated and the title Rex Langobardorum ( King of the Lombards ) had assumed, as Duke of Friuli used.

Hrodgaud claimed 776 the Lombard crown for himself and several cities, including Treviso under his father Stabilinius, joined him. He was but the Great, who came to Italy by forced marches quickly defeated and killed by Karl.

With his death extinguishes the Duchy of Friuli and is a Margraviate of the Carolingian Empire.
