Hrubieszów

Hrubieszów (Ukrainian Грубешів / Hrubeschiw, Russian Грубешов / Grubeschow, German Grubeschow ) is a city in the powiat Hrubieszowski in the Lublin Voivodeship in eastern Poland. It is the most eastern lying city in the country, the border with Ukraine is only five kilometers away.

Geography

The city lies on the River Huczwa, which is a tributary of the Bug. The city of Lublin is about 120 km away, the city of Zamość approximately 50 km.

History

The first documentary mention of the place comes from the year 1254th The city law exists since 1400. During the years 1400 to 1411 a royal residence was built in the city, which was destroyed by the troops of Bohdan Khmelnytsky in 1648.

Since 1772, the town belonged to Austria, and lay there in a circle Zamość in Galicia, in the years 1809 to 1815 to the Duchy of Warsaw. After that, she became the part of Congress Poland.

Museums
