HÅ K Zrinjski Mostar

HŠK Zrinjski Mostar is a football club from Mostar. It was founded in 1905 and is now the oldest surviving football club in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Today the club plays in the Premijer league.

History

The Sportski Hrvatski Klub ( German: Croatian Sports Club) Zrinjski Mostar was founded in 1905 and is now the oldest surviving football club in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the premises of the Croatian Cultural Association Hrvoje the Đački Sportski club was ( German: Student Sports Club) established by the Croatian youth of the city of Mostar and her high school teacher and professor Kuštreb.

In 1912, the Sports Club in Gimnazijalni Nogometni club was Zrinjski ( German: gymnasialer football club Zrinjski ) renamed. The first two football matches were played against the Osman - middle school sports club from Sarajevo. After a 0-3 defeat in the first game HŠK Zrinjski Mostar won 2-1.

In addition to the Gymnasiale Club Zrinjski there was in Mostar another Croatian sports club, the Croatian in 1906 under the name Sport Club Arbeiterjungend ( HROŠK ) was founded. Between the two world wars of the club took part in tournament events in Kotor, Tivat, Sarajevo, Zagreb and Dubrovnik. The club was always welcome, but not in the Yugoslav rulers. Fans

There is a rivalry between the fans of the HŠK Zrinjski Mostar, which are mostly Croats, and Bosnian Muslims dominated by those of the FK Velež Mostar. The encounter between these two teams is known as Mostar derby. In Mostar, there was in the past repeatedly to clashes between Bosnian Muslim and Croatian origin.
