Huacachina

Huacachina is a village in the province of Ica, Peru. It lies a few kilometers west of the city of Ica. The population in 1999 was approximately 200 inhabitants.

The place is due to an oasis ( Laguna de Huacachina ) and the enclosing Dunes, one of the tourist attractions of Peru. The dunes are having a height of about 100 m to the largest in the country. The oasis is fed by an underground Andean river that carries mineral-rich water, and she made such a long time used as a spa. However, the water level increases in recent years continuously.

Throughout the year, be carried out in the dunes at Huacachina so-called " sand rallies " with special buggies. Tours with the buggies can be booked from the tourist spot. Tours last about 30 minutes.
