Huacho

Huacho is a city in Peru, and the capital of the Lima region.

The city is located at 67 meters above sea level, 150 km north of the capital Lima. Huacho is situated on the Pacific coast at the Pan-American Highway, a few kilometers south of the mouth of the Rio Huaura near the Lomas de Lachay National Park.

Huacho in 1991, had a total population of 43 398 inhabitants, which increased in 1993 to 49 271 and 55 632 by 2005. 2011, the population was estimated at 175 585.

Since 1892, drove a line drawn by mules tram, which in 1920 was replaced by an electric railway in Huacho.

In Huacho the composer José de Orejón y Aparicio was born in 1705.
