Huber called peasants, a whole Hube ( Low German hooves ) of farmland owned as property. The name goes back to the Upper German name for Hufner.

Hence the name Huber, who belongs in the German language to the most frequent 5 to 10, in particular in Austria and Switzerland, where he developed about 0.3 percent of the family name represents ( according to Bauer, Müller and Mayer with 0.4 %, Wagner, Berger, Fischer, Gruber and Black with 0.3 %). In the Upper Austrian -speaking common surnames are also Huemer, Humer. Due to the regional differences in pronunciation of the surname Huber since Huaba, the Huober, Huama (s), Huabma (s) has been issued, the surname Huemer, Humer, Haumer, Huebmer and Hueber developed.
